The Perfect (Gutter) Storm

Lots of snow and very cold daytime temperatures have created the perfect storm for your gutters, even if you haven’t realized it yet. You might have noticed icicles everywhere, but you may not have realized that some of them are coming from places you don’t really want them—such as behind the gutters (see center photo)!

Water spilling out of a gutter that is frozen over has no choice but to back up wherever it can, sending water up under shingles, over fascia boards, and down siding. There’s not much to do at this point except to pray for warmer weather, but you could consider installing heat tape to keep the gutters from freezing over if this happens again.

In any case, check out your gutters and downspouts to see if they are flowing well, or call us if you need someone to take a look!
